Teaching Sites
As a resident of the St. Luke’s Hospital / The University of
Toledo Family Medicine Residency Program,
you will receive your training at several different teaching sites. The variety
of these locations will enhance your educational experience
with us.

St. Luke’s Hospital
in Maumee, Ohio, is the sponsor and home hospital for the family
medicine residency program. St. Luke’s, located just south of Toledo, Ohio, is
an independent community hospital with a 302-bed capacity. During your St.
Luke’s rotations, you will receive a wealth of real-world experience in areas
such as general surgery, inpatient family medicine, emergency medicine and
radiology. The family medicine residency program at
St. Luke’s offers residents optimal clinical and patient care
opportunities. The hospital’s pervasive philosophy of providing high-quality
health care with a compassionate and personal touch is well-suited to the
development of tomorrow’s family physicians.

|
A significant portion of your residency training also
will occur at The University of Toledo
Medical Center (UTMC), located in south Toledo on the Health Science campus
of The University of Toledo (UT). The 319-bed, acute care hospital is the only
academic health center in northwest Ohio. The numerous specialty rotations held
at UTMC will combine innovative education, pioneering research and leading-edge
technology to provide residents with valuable learning experiences. Our family
medicine residents will benefit from working with the expert physicians and
other health care providers who are faculty members with the
UT College of
Medicine.

The time residents spend at the Family Medicine Center
(FMC) on the campus of St. Luke’s Hospital is an integral part of our residency
program. This is where residents learn the business side of running a family
practice. As a resident, you will also gain valuable, hands-on experience at the
FMC by performing a wide variety of clinical procedures. You will work with
patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly. You will learn how to
interact with individual patients and strive to meet their physical and
psychological needs. In short, you will learn how to run a family practice that
focuses on putting its patients first.
The Family Medicine Center
recently underwent a major renovation, which provides a
beautiful, state-of-the-art practice facility.

Each year as a family medicine resident, you will travel
to
Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center (OHMC) in nearby Dearborn,
Mich., for your inpatient pediatrics training. OHMC has 365 beds and is a full-service teaching hospital in
partnership with Wayne State University in Detroit. The time you spend at OHMC
will provide you with the opportunity to practice your medical skills in a more
urban community setting.
|
 |
|
You will also travel to
Blanchard
Valley Hospital (BVH) in Findlay, Ohio, for your maternity
care rotation. BVH is a licensed, 150-bed acute care
facility that features a full range of services, including a
Level 2 Special Care Nursery. |

|
Select rotations of your residency will be performed in
the offices of area physicians. You will go to private practices for your
allergy, dermatology, otorhinolaryngology, geriatrics/hospice,
gynecology and ambulatory pediatrics training. As a third-year resident, you
also may opt to take electives that are held in private office settings. The
well-qualified physician preceptors you will work with are committed to
providing you with valuable learning experiences.
