Benefits for Residents
Residents in the St. Luke’s Hospital / The University of
Toledo Family Medicine Residency Program receive a salary/benefit package comparable to other programs in the region.

Health Insurance
Insurance will be provided for residents and their eligible dependents through
one of the health programs supported by The University of Toledo.
- Medical premiums are shared.
- Prescription drug coverage is offered.
- Dental premiums are covered in full.
- Vision premiums are shared.
- Long-term disability premiums are covered in full.
Life Insurance
Group life insurance is provided in the amount of $10,000 per resident.
Additional term life insurance and/or dependent life insurance also is
available.
Educational Stipend
These funds may be used to cover travel expenses for approved medical
conferences, and to purchase educational materials such as medical textbooks and
periodical subscriptions. Residents also can use the money to purchase technology such as laptop computers or PDAs.
- First-year residents receive $700
- Second-year residents receive $1,000
- Third-year residents receive $1,300
Tuition Waiver
Residents are eligible for up to 8.0 credit hours per semester. The waiver
applies to application, tuition and general fees for courses offered through The
University of Toledo.
Additional Benefits
Our residents receive a host of additional benefits. Some of them include:
- Up to 15 days of paid sick leave is available per year, if needed.
- Paid membership in the
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
is offered for our residents. Select residents may be sent to AAFP meetings.
- Costs are covered to obtain training certificates for the Ohio and Michigan
state medical boards.
- Costs are covered for ACLS, BLS, ALSO and PALS certifications.
- Medical coats are provided with free laundry service.
- Discounts to local and regional activities and services through the Toledo
Industrial Recreation and Employment Services (TIRES).
- Free parking is available at teaching sites.
