The St. Luke’s Hospital / The University of Toledo Family Medicine Residency Program
offers three years of intensive training designed to prepare you to become a competent, well-rounded
family physician. Our family medicine residency program is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
It offers a broad spectrum of educational experiences in community and university hospital environments,
as well as a model family practice and select private practice settings.
St. Luke’s Hospital,
an independent community hospital in Maumee, Ohio, assumed sponsorship of the residency program
in 2007 from The University of Toledo College of Medicine (formerly Medical
College of Ohio). This transition did not change the program structure, which was established in
July 1977. The St. Luke's Hospital / The University of Toledo Family
Medicine Residency Program continues to offer the same, long tradition of graduating capable physicians
prepared to face the unique challenges of family medicine. Currently, four residency positions are
available each year. These residents will follow in the footsteps of the program’s more than 100 graduates.
Our family medicine residency
blends the real-world experiences of a community hospital with the academic
and technological advantages of a university-affiliated medical center. A significant portion of your
instruction will occur at both St. Luke’s Hospital and
The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC). As
residents, you will benefit from the vast educational resources and
knowledgeable faculty of
The University
of Toledo College of Medicine.
During your residency, you will travel to
Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn, Mich., a suburb of
nearby Detroit, which offers a more urban community experience for your three
inpatient pediatric rotations. Your maternity care rotation will be completed at
Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio.
The Family Medicine Center (FMC) on the campus of St. Luke’s Hospital is a centerpiece of our residency program. The FMC serves as a
model group practice for our residents. This is where you will learn valuable management skills and
gain a wealth of experience providing preventive, continuous and comprehensive care to patients of all ages.
A primary goal of our residency program is to provide a supportive learning environment that is conducive
to your development as a competent and caring family physician. Coupled with the academic challenges of the
UTMC, your experience at St. Luke’s will prove invaluable. An essential part of St. Luke’s mission is to
provide quality health care services in an atmosphere of care and compassion. This hospital-wide belief
in compassionate patient care lends itself well to the overall development of our residents as they became
thoughtful family physicians focused on the needs of their patients.
